Powercomm Group recently took part in a Helping Hands Day for Barretstown.
Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families affected by cancer and other serious illnesses – supported behind the scenes by 24-hour on-site medical and nursing care.
All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food, and medical assistance, is provided at no cost to the family.
Barretstown is supported by donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups. You can find out more here.
Powercomm Group's goal of the day was to help prepare the camp for the campers arriving for the coming weekend.
The team started the day with a tour of the facilities and a history of Barretstown dating back centuries. The staff were so knowledgeable, and it was great to learn about this great charity that became what it is today.
Next, we were split into teams, and each team was assigned a section to clean. I, myself, was placed in the threat where we spent the morning hoovering, spraying down the stairs and furniture, and mopping. We all worked really well together and had a bit of a laugh between work. The other teams carried out tasks such as changing bedding and cleaning out the rooms the volunteers would be staying in.
Next, we had lunch and cleaned up the dining hall area. That was a huge team effort.
We finished off the day by planting a tree to memorialise our time spent in Barretstown.
All of the team felt satisfied by the work they had competed and we all felt like we played a small part in helping this amazing charity. We were really blown away by the works carried out by Barretstown, and look forward to helping out again.
