Key Tasks
One day in HR is never like another; that’s the great thing about my role. HR in an organisation like Powercomm is a true business partnering role. I work with every function in the organisation, focusing on key areas such as recruitment and retention, talent management, learning and development, HR analytics, compliance and risk management, and organisational culture.
I work with the various departments on issues such as workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, policy development, workforce record management, employee relations and employee engagement, organisational and individual development, as well as working to help foster a really positive work culture and support the organisation in areas such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The role
The role is fantastically diverse; it is never the same day to day, which I love. I enjoy the challenges and problem-solving required for the role and find it very fulfilling. I also really enjoy that I can make a real and tangible difference to the employee experience through my role, and I am excited to continue working to improve this in the future.
Working for Powercomm is fantastic; the culture is not like any organisation I have worked for previously. Powercomm is a brilliant, supportive team environment, and that means a lot to me. The people I work with are always happy to help and support on anything that is going on, and it makes coming into the office a pleasure.
It’s a really exciting time to be working in Powercomm, as the organisation is growing and evolving, and this allows me to constantly expand my skill set within HR daily.
Challenges of the role
The current recruitment environment within our industry is a challenge, and finding the best talent to continue to grow the organisation can be tough. This means I have to ensure that I am exploring all aspects of workforce planning and recruitment, and I enjoy the challenge of constantly looking for new and innovative ways to recruit the best people for Powercomm. The people are the heart of any organisation, and at Powercomm, this is very clear. I love the fact that, even when it is challenging, I can really work on our people strategy from recruitment through to someone’s retirement after a long, happy career.
Downtime
Outside of work, I get my fun from my horse, Rosie. Rosie and I do some hacking out and compete in some low-level dressage. I am a member of Castledermot riding club here in Kildare, and love to get out and about with Rosie and the club at the weekends. I love competing and going to competitions to support the great friends I have made through the riding club. Riding and looking after horses is a bit like working in HR, no day is ever the same and the challenge of constantly having to adapt and learn keeps me interested in the sport too!
